I have to admit, after over four years of marriage, it’s a struggle at times to think of new, creative (and did I mention cheap?) date nights. Once a couple has been together for a significant amount of time, they tend to fall into a routine. Routines can be great if well utilized. Unfortunately, most of us fall into a boring routine. So keep the weekly date routine, just add some variety to the schedule. It CAN be done without breaking your budget or causing one of you to go into debt! Use your creative flare, or try one of these ideas.
#1 DIY Local Photo Shoot
Wherever you live, landmarks and historic sites exist. Visit these places for unique pictures that you photograph yourself. Almost everyone can take a selfie. More skilled couples can use timers and such to snap better shots. Play the tourist in your hometown. Ask passersby to take the picture for you. It could become a quite entertaining date.
#2 Free Museum Nights
Thankfully, many cultural venues and museums have certain times when entry is free. Take a few minutes to research the places in your area. If you don’t normally visit these attractions, you may be pleasantly surprised by all they have to offer.
#3 Marathon of Favorite Shows from Childhood
A great deal of a person’s personality and character develops during childhood. Watching his favorite shows from that time period can give you a better understanding of your partner. Besides, it is quite fun and often free through streaming services.
#4 Attend a Dance Class or Create your Own
Sometimes dance studios will offer discounted or free dance lessons to the public. Some clubs offer a class in line dancing before the night’s events really start. What about YouTube? Surely you’ve checked out videos on that site to learn other things. Why not do it together?
#5 Visit the Bookstore or Library’s Travel Section
Have you ever imagined a dream vacation? Browse the travel books and magazines to plan your ideal couple’s vacation. Get down to the details, including the excursions. Did you know she likes horseback riding? Who knows what you may learn about each other?
#6 Prepare a New Recipe Together
Working together builds intimacy. Use teamwork to attempt a gourmet meal. Maybe gourmet is too much of a stretch. Perhaps, a dinner of comfort foods would be easier. Turn up the music, pour the wine and create together. If the food burns, you can always call for pizza! If you’re worried, buy a frozen meal just in case.
#7 Painting & Wine
Trendy new wine tasting and painting classes have popped up. If you don’t have the cash for those, try one of these alternatives. Painting classes at a local craft store can be an inexpensive way to spend two hours together. On the other hand, you can really save money by creating your own painting studio at home with the help of YouTube. Strengthening your relationship and keeping the spark alive involves spending time together. The routine, weekly date strengthens the relationship while new experiences as a couple enhance attraction and intimacy. It doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult, just make the effort. It will pay enormous dividends.
#8 Get an App
When all else fails, look to your phone. I recently stumbled upon Folio Weekly’s “Do Jax” app. It’s a free app for your phone that lists all the upcoming events in the Jacksonville area, including live music, art, comedy, markets, festivals, and other happenings. Many of these activities are free.
